Wainwright challenge

It may have seemed as if we were on holiday for the last few days, but actually we have been working really hard. E and M have been collecting Wainwright's for many years - these are the big mountains in the Lake District. There are 214 of them and we bagged ten in four days. This took Mark to 200, so we had the champagne on ice to celebrate this milestone. Unfortunately after a recount it turns out that he only has 196. Obviously we couldn't put the cork back in so we celebrated anyway.
Ps, thank you to Elaine for safely driving us over the Hardnott Pass, the steepest and worst road in England.

Luxury living

There are a few signs that things are gradually getting back to normal for us. Firstly I have started doing silly poses again. Also Daz is back buying gadgets. Today he managed to order a new running watch while hiking on the top of a mountain! He is also getting tight with money again. Fortunately although he turned down the chance to upgrade to a double jacuzzi room tonight, when we got here they gave it to us anyway! However the experience was slightly disconcerting as the water that came out of the tap was a deep yellow colour.

Family catalogue pose

We have survived day two in the Lake District. Good posing for a Rohan catalogue by the family. Not such a hilly day today as we took stock of our bruises, aches and pains from yesterday. It was good to get a quick beer in at the end of the day and then put our feet up in our lovely cottage.

Lake District adventures

We went to the Lake District towards the end of March and I am just bringing my blog up to date.

Up in the Lake District with Daz, Elaine and Mark. Lots of drama as the first thing that happened was that E and M's brand new car got stuck in a giant mud bath and we had to push it out. Then we walked up above the snow line and I sank up to my thighs in the snow. Me and Elaine had to crawl out, but somehow Daz and Mark managed to run across it.
After a great day out walking in amazing scenery and weather, we chose the steepest and most dangerous route ever down the side of a mountain. E and M have walked in the Lake District at least once a year for the last 25 years, and as we all quivered in shock at the bottom they said that it was the worst descent that they have ever seen. All of this on day one, and we are here for the whole week!

Starling murmurations

Sorry the photos didn't send first time.

Well I had never heard of this before moving to Brighton, but it is a pretty amazing sight.
The starlings all gather together as the weather starts to get colder and as the sun is settling.
They whizz about in huge gangs and one of the big places that they do that is at the Palace Pier.
We timed it just right and saw them a couple of days ago. For about half an hour they charged around in huge groups as I desperately tried to take photos of them.
Just as I was starting to get the hang of it hundreds of them shot under the pier right next to where we were standing and disappeared.
There must have been a secret signal between them to say that it was time for bed.
That was the show over for the night and they spend the night roosting under the pier.
Looking forward to watching them again tomorrow.
