Our new home

Very exciting day today. We have taken the plunge and bought a builders van that is in the process of being transformed into a motorhome. When it is completed it will be our home for the next few months.
We had been thinking of carrying our home, in the form of a tent, sleeping bags, two tiny chairs and a camping stove on our bikes around Britain and France for the summer. However, now we come to actually try it, the panniers are really heavy and that is without all of the above, and I can't think what we will do when it throws it down with rain for days on end and we are stuck in a tiny wet tent.
Anyway, plan B sounds much more promising. We have to sell our existing bikes and buy some fold ups as there is not much space in the van, and then we just have to be patient for a couple of weeks and then we can hit the open road.

    1. Hi Dave glad you are keeping up with the blog, I knew you would be interested in this one. We were going to ring you and ask your opinion, but instead we bought it anyway! We don't want a bike rack as we want to travel incognito and we are genuinely keen on folding bikes as we can take them very easily on trains and trams.
It doesn't seem big compared to other camper vans and it's the same size as the one that a delivery man used to bring us a parcel this morning so we thought it must be nippy and easy to manoeuvre. Obviously I don't intend on parking it as I had enough trouble doing that in the KA.

    1. We have our own portable wifi at the moment, but Darren said that I have just used a months worth in two days, so it might not make it to the van. Simple answer is no. Am I right in thinking you are not impressed??

  5. There's a load of pikeys living in camper vans on a building site on Ilkeston road. You could park up there when you come to dinner on Saturday. Or are you more sort of "New-Age" travellers? There were a few of them on the old petrol station forecourt on Lenton Boulevard but I think the council chucked them off.

    1. Our camper is going to be a bit like the tardis with a hum drum outside and peace, tranquillity and all mod cons hidden inside. Don't think we fit either of your categories, but it isn't ready yet so don't panic, we will just turn up on our bikes this time.
