Dave in daring 'Baywatch' rescue

Breaking news! Daring rescue caught on camera. Never in the history of this blog has there been a real news story, but it happened today!
We were enjoying a lovely walk to the end of Ao Nang beach and were surprised to find a little island off the shore. We watched other people walk across to it and the sea was about waist deep as long as you stuck to a narrow strip of sand.
We were a bit concerned about our bags so to be on the safe side, we took it in turns to walk across.
Darren and I went first and it was surprising how strong the sideways current was. Dave and Margs went second and they were on the way back when the incident occurred.
A lady was walking on her own with a large rucksack and another  bag round her neck. Dave shouted to her to stay across on the sand bar but she didn't and got out of her depth.
We watched it unfold from the shore and Dave leapt across to her and pulled her back to shallower land.
Interviewing him later, Dave (46), modestly said, 'she walked to one side where the water suddenly got deeper and then she was out of her depth, started to panic and shouted, help me. When I got to her I couldn't touch the sand and wished I had learned to swim properly.'
He got her on to the sand bar and she said thank you and rushed away.
He was really calm and cool about the whole thing - what a hero!

  3. Hi Matt Thanks for the sort of positive comment. I can only write like this if something happens and we are splitting from Dave and Margs tomorrow. So the pressure is on Darren to do exciting thing so that I can write about them. How are you two Matt, anything to report?
